Film and Music.
This evening features the work of the celebrated English filmmaker Jayne Parker and experimental film work by Anton Lukoszevieze. Parker’s film Trilogy: Kettle’s Yard was a highpoint of last year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, described by The Independent as ‘magical’. Trilogy: Kettle’s Yard features Anton Lukoszevieze as cellist, alongside Parker’s mesmerising film Stationary Music, featuring the pianist Katherina Wolpe. The evening culminates in a new commission by Anton Lukoszevieze entitled Heroes. Anton writes, “Heroes is a film in many parts. The films set poems by different American poets. Normally, poems are set to music, but I have set them to found film footage, taken from anonymous American home movies that I have collected over the years. The re-edited footage ‘frames’ the poems, creating a visual landscape within which the poems are heard spoken by the poets. A third layer is my composed music, creating a sonic counterpoint to the images. These elements juxtaposed create a melancholic and beautiful journey, coloured by time. A film celebrating the poets’ work I love, my Heroes.”
