Storyteller and folk singer Matthew Crampton returns to Harwich with his acclaimed show Human Cargo. Giving voice to emigrants, slaves, transportees and other human cargo from past centuries, this show is a fascinating – and, yes, entertaining – look at a cruel subject, useful for understanding migration today.
The story-and-song show draws on his book Human Cargo, described by Cerys Matthews as ‘an elegant, vital insight into human suffering and survival’. Since its premiere at Harwich Shanty Festival in 2016, the show has toured widely. This special online performance includes local migration stories from the Harwich area.
‘Incredibly inspiring, deeply moving and ultimately inspirational.’ Sean Cooney, The Young’uns
‘Beautiful, powerful, poignant and informative.’ Ilyaz Hajat, The Refugee Council
