An enticing mix of Flamenco, Latin, Jazz, African and Folk.
Against the Grain are: Matt Sullivan (flamenco guitar/cajon) and Jo May (cajons, balafon (African xylophone), spoons and medieval style snare drum). They perform mostly original tunes bringing together their different influences – Flamenco, Latin, Jazz, African, Folk… They had a great summer of festivals last year, including Broadstairs Folk Week and Sidmouth Folk Week, and they’re currently recording their first album.
Individually, they have performed in many other groups and venues. Matt currently plays with Manos Puestas (www.manospuestas.com), and one of Britain’s largest Flamenco groups, Camino del Flamenco. Until recently Jo was performing regularly with the folk band, Zoox (www.zoox.co.uk).
Spoons Workshop:
Jo runs Spoons Workshops in schools and for festivals, parties and events. She will provide an assortment of wooden and metal spoons, and teach a variety of rhythms and techniques. The session will be accompanied by the fantastic guitarist, Matt Sullivan.
Look out for the Lock-Inn session in the evening after the gig.
Online bookings are closed for this event but tickets may still be available on the door.
