‘DOVERCOURT BESIDE THE SEASIDE EVENT A BIG HIT’
Thousands of people flocked to Dovercourt seafront for the town’s first Beside the Seaside event. The crowds enjoyed a fun-packed day of live music, activities, a sports day, open beach huts, sandcastle competition, treasure hunt, donkey rides and much more. The event has been hailed a huge success and it is hoped that it can be staged again next year. Beside the Seaside was put on by Harwich Festival for Tendring District Council. The headline act was Monster Florence, who recently featured on ‘BBC’s Radio One Introducing,’ with their new single Anne Boleyn. Supporting them were F.O.X., who have also supported Depeche Mode on their Delta Machine stadium tour. There were also up and coming local bands Leyline Pass, Elephant Jane, Hunt for Titans, and State of Millenia. The Essex Rocks Stage was funded by Essex Community Foundation, Harwich Town Council, and TDC. ‘Secret Beach Huts’ were another special feature of the day. ‘My Happy Hut,’ which belongs to Anna Davies and won Britain’s Beach Hut of the year in 2016, hosted the Dramatic Pause players. ‘My Hula Hut’, also belonging to Anna Davies, hosted the Limitless Dance Crew. Dovercourt Beach Hut Association has organised the use of several more beach huts which featured the Dovercourt Theatre Group, a pop-up pub from the Harwich Brewery.Other huts had two storytellers who entertained children aged five and over, and very young children up to the age of five.
