Peter Davis, the Chairman of the Harwich Festival of the Arts Trust has announced that Diana Burrell is retiring from her position as Artistic Director of the Harwich Festival of the Arts. Diana has been Artistic Director from 2011-2014. He also announced that Roderick Earle would be taking up the post as Artistic Director for the Harwich Festival of the Arts 2015. Roderick Earle has been the President of the Harwich Festival of the Arts for last three years.
Peter Davis says:
‘I have worked alongside Diana for 3 most enjoyable years and have constantly been amazed at the imagination and flair she brought to the role of Artistic Director. Her vision, enthusiasm, determination and shear hard work has established the Harwich Festival to be up there with the best, to entertain local people and visitors alike and to put Harwich firmly on the map. Last year the festival attracted just under half a million pounds to the local economy and this year will be even better.
I look forward to working with Roderick Earle and he will know that Diana will be a hard act to follow.’
Diana Burrell says:
‘I’ve loved every minute of my time with the festival; it’s been a real privilege and joy to be able to do this for the town. However, I feel strongly that the time has come to pass it on to someone else with a fresh vision and new energy. There’s also the small matter of my own work – I have several commissions to write over the next couple of years including a big 25′ piece for the BBC Symphony Orchestra for a concert in the Barbican Hall, London, and I need to spend some serious time on that.
We have built up a very strong team to run the festival and I know they will support Roderick in all he does. He’s already got some great plans for next year and I feel totally confident that it will all be in very safe hands.’
